ARC Thorpeness Presents

Hazel O'Sullivan

Hazel O'Sullivan

Hazel O’Sullivan is a multi-disciplinary artist examining visual discourse from Irish culture. Her work imagines a combination of ancient and future narratives as artefacts, devices and mythological architecture through a retrofuturistic lens. Through drawing, painting, sculpture and curation, she explores symbolic materiality of Irish artefacts, reimagining them as both historical objects and speculative constructs. Curator Anna Woodward sat down with O'Sullivan to discuss her practice, and the conversation can be read here.

O'Sullivan became the inaugural recipient of the ARC Thorpeness Art Prize this year and her work is now on display at the property. O'Sullivan hopes visitors will see the work as part of the architecture as they ascend the 5-storey property.

O’Sullivan has an MFA from Chelsea College of Arts, London (2023) and BFA from NCAD, Dublin (2021), and is represented by Kerlin Gallery, Dublin.
